New friends - a new love of four-part harmony - colorful shows - attractive costumes - a feeling of well-being ..... they all are yours when you lose the worries and cares of this fast-moving age in a "Barbershop" melody.
Perhaps you are wondering just what is barbershop harmony. Simply, it is harmony produced by four voices, unaccompanied, with a high harmony part consistently sung above the melody. It requires continuous tone adjustment by acute ear sense. Rules of time, rhythm, and words are often sacrificed to deliver the poem or story and to obtain better blending quality. There is at least one harmonizing chord on each note of the melody. Sometimes there are several chords on a melody note, and are called "swipes"
What do you personally want out of life? Primarily you want to enjoy life and have good friends. If so, then Barbershoping is your ticket to harmonious living.
Community service, or just plain "helping others," is another rewarding aspect of our wonderful Society. You'd be amazed at the hundreds of thousands of dollars and man-hours donated to deserving local organizations each year. The Society's Charitable Mission is, "to preserve our musical legacy through support of vocal music education in our schools and communities."

On the International, District and Chapter levels, you'll find more that a fair share of harmonious activities. Quartet and Chorus Contests are held at District and International Conventions. These are very definitely family affairs. Special events are planned for the ladies.

The Society has nearly 40,000 members in some 800 chapters. There are chapters in Canada and abroad.

The Palmetto Statesmen is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We serve the Piedmont Area of North and South Carolina. Our members come from all walks of life, and all men are encouraged to stop by any Monday night to listen to us practice and sing with us.
